We had breakfast on the Mediterranean..... we soaked up the early morning sun and then set off for a hard days walk along the bays of Cinque Terre.
Alex sits back to admire the sun and the beach. There is a rock fortification on the point where she is looking, which was very old and very cool.
Amazing! A wonder of engineering and absolutely fantastic! The whole series of villages are carved out of cliff faces and the houses and alleyways are actually in the stone. The photos do not really do justice to how steep the terrain is and how linked up the tiny houses are. I can only imagine how tough it is to get your groceries up to the your house!!!
The streets have a "Pirates of the Caribbean" feel about them and you can imagine marauding attackers chasing through the narrow alleys in centuries past.
Funniest thing today-
On the train going out to Cinque Terre and we were just chatting and laughing and generally having a good old New Zealand time. Must have been too early in the morning for some Italians because not long after the trip started, we were told to "Be quiet!!" very forcefully, in Italian!!
Be quiet??? On a train???!!!
What is that about???? The mean, old man appeared to be reading the bible and all I could think was, with that much bible reading, surely he has come across the section about tolerance????
