Funny! We have been to an old Church today in Prague (along with 46 million other people!!) and there is one way to get up to the viewing platform at the very top of the church steeple. You go into a stone floored room, where you pass over some cash to a lady and then there is one tiny rock doorway, with a metal grid door and basically it is a rock tube that goes up and up and up for 287 steps. Alex, Cathy and I climbed the stairs and truely, the All Blacks should do this for their high altitude training, because the air was very thin way, way up there!
On the way down, I passed several groups of people who all inquired how much further, to which I usually had to reply 'long way yet' - mainly because it was!
Then I came across a sole Asian boy making the ascent, so I chirpily said to him 'long way yet!' and received an absolutely stricken look and he, through his heaving chest breathed.... "wrong way? wrong way...?"
"No! I said LONG WAY"
He pointed up and said "not wrong way?" So I tried to say 'Not wrong way, but long way" so he replied again, likely starting to wonder if I was some sort of additional toll on the stairs, 'wrong way??". By this stage he was looking very confused so I did the universal sign of good stuff and gave him a double thumbs up and pointed up and started down the stairs myself (actually just getting away from an awkward confusion.)
My feeble attempt at internationals relations will probably be blamed on Australia, so our reputation is still safe NZ!
Other funny- Man singing in a bar, in a language not his own......
"Yesterday" by the Beatles
"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to pray
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Suddenly, I'm not with the man I used to see
There's a shadow hanging onder me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly..."
My fav is not being with the man he used to see....
I shouldn't really knock it because I am currently making a hash of every street name and sign I read, but oh well.....
