Switzerland is Beautiful!

Lion of Lucerne
It so cold, she is stuck to my face!
We have left Lucerne (Luzern) and headed through Zug and on into the country of Liechtenstein, which I actually thought was a made up place as per Ulrich Von Liechtenstein, from "A Knights Tale" (thanks Heath Ledger- RIP).  The weather has turned really cold and there is snow on the surrounding mountains. This morning we walked the city of Lucerne and found the Lion statue which was carved out of rock in 1820 to commemorate Swiss Soldiers who were massacre in battle in 1792, during the French Revolution.  It was very cool and when Mark Twain visited it, he called it “the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world”  - wish I had thought of that!  The walk was really interesting and it was very fortunate we got completely lost because we came across a group of Catholics, following their Priest, doing the 12 stations of the cross.  There were little carvings every 50m or so, all the way up and around the mountain (that we incidentally did not have to climb, but did....) and up to their quaint little church.  They were leaving lighted candles in each alcove, which was rather lovely.   I poked my nose into the church and saw beautiful lead light windows, but people were starting to turn up for Good Friday service, so I could not be clickety Suz :(

We then went on to Liechtenstein and checked out the castle, to see if the King was home, or more importantly a Prince, for Alex!
Very cold in Innsbruck!

We are now in Austria.  We stopped and had a bit of a wander around Innsbruck, which is reasonably close to the border, then on to Salzburg, which is the home of Mozart as well as the home of the Von Trapps!  We have walked through the garden where Julie Andrews did her thing and tomorrow we re enact 'the hills are alive......"

We are planning to go up to the castle early tomorrow morning and have a good look around, then wander the old city.  It is pretty cool because everywhere seems to have an old city....
